Five district co-chairs of HDP formally arrested in Balıkesir

A Turkish court has ruled the arrest of five co-chairs of the HDP in the districts of Balıkesir province in western Turkey.

Five co-chairs of the HDP in the districts of Balıkesir province had been detained as part of the increasingly ongoing operations against the party last week. The district co-chairs were released but re-taken into custody later upon the rejection of the prosecutor. The HDP co-chairs were arrested on appearing in court.

Out of the 8 HDP provincial and district co-chairs detained last week, HDP Balıkesir provincial co-chair Cafer Sarıtepe, Edremit district co-chair Selinay Polat and Ayvalık district co-chair Ömer Varil had been jailed.

Bandırma HDP district co-chair Ali Bora, HDP district co-chair Gülderen Kasap, Ayvalık HDP district co-chair Telli Işık, Bandırma HDP district co-chair Nesibe Yöyler and Burhaniye HDP district co-chair Zeynel Altan had been released from custody but detained once again on the prosecutor's rejection. All the five HDP administrators have been formally arrested this morning.
