Five killed in Syrian attack in Aleppo

At least five people died and eleven others were wounded as a result of artillery shootings by the military of the Baas regime late Tuesday evening.

The artillery shootings which targeted the Kurdish neighborhoods of Şêx Meqsûd and Esrefiye in Aleppo caused a great damage in the houses and living areas of civilians.

Among the wounded are also four children aged under 13.

The city of Aleppo has been witnessing intense clashes between armed groups and security forces of the Baas regime in recent days.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 154 people, including 54 civilian, 41 militants and 59 soldiers, died in Syria on Monday.

23 people had died in an aerial assault by the Syrian military which targeted the neighborhood of Esrefiye on 31 January. The attack was followed by severe clashes between regime forces and People's Defense Units (YPG) as of 8 February. YPG stated that 48 Syrian soldiers killed and 22 others were taken captive, and seven Kurdish fighters lost their life in the mentioned clashes.

Around 600 thousand Kurds live in the neighborhoods of Şêx Meqsûd and Esrefiye in Aleppo.
