Foreign Minister: Turkey would take its part in any coalition against Syria

Speaking to Fikret Bila for daily Milliyet, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said that Turkey would take its part in an international coalition against Syria should one be formed even in the event that the U.N. Security Council doesn't reach a wider consensus on action.

Davutoğlu called for tougher international sanction against Syria following the reports of an alleged chemical weapon attack which is claimed to have taken the life of hundreds of people.

“From the very beginning, Turkey has defended that the UN and the international community should no more sit back and watch the crime against humanity in Syria”, Davutoğlu said and underlined that the UN Security Council should impose a sanction against Syria soon after the announcement of the outcomes of the UN delegation's inspections at the site of the alleged chemical weapon attack.

"We always prioritize acting together with United Nations decisions and with the international community. Should no such a decision come out of the U.N. Security Council, other alternatives will come onto the agenda, as is already discussed by 36-37 countries today”, the Foreign Minister said and pointed out that Turkey, as one of the most countries most effected by the Syrian conflict, and is dealing with the heavy burden of Syria lonely, by providing the Syrian refugees in the country with all their needs, would join any coalition against Syria.
