Former DEP deputy Selim Sadak released

Former deputy Selim Sadak, who was detained in Diyarbakır on Monday, was released on Tuesday night.

Police operations were launched in 28 cities targeting Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and other Kurdish politicians at the same time as three HDP-run municipalities were seized by the AKP.

Among the people targeted in the operation on Monday was former DEP deputy and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) council member Selim Sadak, whose house in Diyarbakir was raided by police.

Sadak, who was outside the city, went to the Diyarbakır Courthouse in order to receive information about the investigation after his return to Diyarbakır on Monday.

Sadak was detained by the police during the identity check at the entrance of the courthouse and was taken to the TEM Branch of the Provincial Security Directorate. Sadak, who was detained for one day, was then taken to court.

Sadak learned that he was wanted for a previous investigation and was handed a ban to travel abroad, before being released not before having spent one night in prison.

DTK co-chairs Leyla Güven and Berdan Öztürk visited Sadak at home after his release.
