Former Deputy Mayor of Cizre released - UPDATE

Hanım Onur, former deputy mayor of Cizre, who was arrested in the so-called Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) operation 16 months ago, has been released on Monday after her lawyer presented a letter of application to Diyarbakır 7th High Criminal Court demanding her release.

Onur's lawyer Canan Atabay remarked in her application that Onur's children, five years-old leukaemia patient Solin and seven years-old Mithat who has epilepsy, needed their mother beside them.

Onur was arrested in September 2011 in the scope of an investigation into the City Council of Cizre. She was accused of being a member of the KCK organization.

The court decision to release Onur has brought great happiness to her family, particularly to her two children Solin and Mithat.

Solin said she wanted to see her mother in the soonest time.

Onur's mother Ayşe Yular, also welcoming the news of great joy, extended her thanks to everyone who supported the signature campaign for Onur's release.

Onur's father and relatives have left for Mardin Prison to welcome Onur and to take her to her children who have been longing for her for the last 16 months.
