Former HDP MP Hüda Kaya released from prison after first hearing of second Kobanê trial

Former HDP MP Hüda Kaya has been released from prison after the first hearing of the second Kobanê trial.

After the first hearing of the second Kobanê trial, the Kurdish politician and former HDP MP Hüda Kaya was released from prison. Politicians Hüda Kaya, Serpil Kemalbay, Fatma Kurtulan, Garo Paylan and Pero Dündar are under trial for the protests against the ISIS attack on Kobanê in 2014.

Hüda Kaya was in Marmara Prison for eight months before the court ordered her release. Outside the prison, she was greeted by many people, including the co-speaker of the Democratic Congress of Peoples (HDK), Cengiz Çiçek, DEM party MPs, the provincial boards of the DEM party in Istanbul and their families, with the slogans "Jin, Jiyan Azadî" and "Long live the prison resistance".

"The injustice in this country is indescribable"

Outside the prison, Kaya said: "There is no description for the injustice, the theft of human life, freedom and rights in this country. Unfortunately, people from all parts of our society continue to be exposed to this injustice in every possible way. The Kobanê trial is indeed one of the most tragic trials in Turkey. It should be seriously analyzed and serve as a lesson in legal history."

"My heart is between those four walls"

Kaya pointed out that she herself was illegally imprisoned for eight months and added: "But given the fact that there are party friends who have been sitting behind these walls for eight years, who have been sitting in other prisons for ten years, my eight months are not worth mentioning. Almost everyone is permanently exposed to this injustice. We were released, but our hearts are still behind those walls. There are very beautiful, innocent people there. Injustice continues to happen all over the country. I would like to thank all our friends and colleagues who support us in our struggle."
