Forty people have been taken into custody this morning following a police operation in Gülsuyu and Gazi neighborhoods, in Istanbul.

The police operation was aimed at the people who attended the funeral of 21-year-old Hasan Ferit Gedik, killed during clashes between residents, drug gangs and police.

The police also searched the building of Gülsuyu Gülensu Rights Association, as well as several houses.

Clashes occurred last night in Gülsuyu when police did not allowed a group of young residents to march to commemorate Gedik.

Gedik’s funeral was delayed for three days because police refused to allow the family to celebrate the ceremony at the murder scene.
