Forty two students taken into custody at Samsun University

Forty two students have been taken into custody at the University of Samsun, province in the Black Sea region, as a result of police intervention which came following a quarrel between left-wing and nationalist groups on Thursday.

The quarrel between two groups broke out when a nationalist group, reportedly affiliated to extreme rightist “Grey Wolves” organization, opened a stand in the campus area and launched a signature campaign saying “We want a Turkish Constitution and Turkish Anatolia”. The fight was followed by police attack on left-wing students. Some who were effected by the intense tear gas were rushed to hospital. 42 among them were taken into custody in the conflict which the other group survived without any kind of intervention.
