Four children arrested in Istanbul
Four out of five children who were taken into custody in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district on 15 February have been arrested late Saturday.
Five children, three at the age of 15 and two 14, were detained as a result of simultaneous police raids in a number of houses in the neighborhood of Kanarya early on 15 February, at the anniversary of the capture of Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
One of the five children, aged 15, was released last night following the long-lasting interrogations by the prosecutor of Küçükçekmece Courthouse. The other four minors were sent to Maltepe Prison for Juveniles. Families who waited in front of the courthouse all day long yesterday strongly reacted to the arrest of their children, saying they would soon object to the court decision.
On the other hand, it has been reported that one of the arrested minors was arrested despite medical reports showing that he has epilepsy.
19 years-old Mehmet Şen, who was taken into custody in the same operation, is reportedly being held at the anti-terror branch of Istanbul Police Headquarters and will be referred to court today.
