Of the 11 people detained in connection with the triple murder of Şenyaşar family members in Urfa in 2018, four were remanded in custody.
Three members of the Şenyaşar family were victims of lynchings carried out on the sidelines of a campaign tour of AKP deputy Ibrahim Halil Yıldız by his armed bodyguards and relatives in the district of Suruç on June 14, 2018, just days before the parliamentary and presidential elections.
Turkish judicial authorities have shown no interest in solving the murders of Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar and two of his sons, Celal and Adil, Yıldız and his mafia gang continue to enjoy a life of freedom.
Mother Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit, who was also injured in the attack, have been sitting outside the Palace of Justice in Urfa every day since March 9 last year to demand punishment for the killers of their family members.
11 people were taken into custody in connection with the triple murder the day before, including the AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız's elder brother Celal Yıldız, his nephew Osman Şah Yıldız, Şeğsin Yıldız (a nephew of the AKP MP working for the municipality), Mustafa Amaç (advisor to the AKP deputy) İbrahim Şimşek (a relative of the MP), Mikail Şimşek and Osman Yıldız.
The detainees were referred to court where 2 of the detainees, Osman Şah Yıldız and Osman Yıldız, were released after giving their statements to the prosecutor, while the other 9 were referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a demand for their arrest.
While 5 more detainees were released with a judicial review measure, Celal Yıldız, Mikail Şimşek, Müslüm Yıldız and İbrahim Şimşek were remanded in custody on charges of “homicide” and “spoliation of evidence”.
The Massacre of the Şenyaşar Family
Ten days before the parliamentary election on June 24, 2018, AKP deputy Ibrahim Halil Yıldız, accompanied by relatives and bodyguards, visited the Şenyaşar family farm in Suruç. After a verbal argument, Yıldız's bodyguards opened fire. Mehmet, Celal and Adil Şenyaşar were taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds, where two of them were ultimately murdered. The coroner's autopsy of Celal Şenyaşar revealed bullet impacts from at least six firearms of various calibers. In Adil Şenyaşar's case, cuts and stab wounds were found in 14 places on the body, as well as impact wounds with hard objects. The report said that Adil had been subjected to "extreme violence." Seventeen bullets of various calibers were found in his body. Of these projectiles, five were fatal. Only two of the bullets were not fired from close range. The father, Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar, who had rushed to the hospital on foot, was severely injured there by blows to the head from an oxygen tank. He died a day later, while the funeral of his two sons was attacked by police with tear gas.
