Four people arrested in Mardin

Four people were arrested in Mardin's Derik district on Friday for allegedly "spreading propaganda for an illegal organization".

Yasemin Yılmaz was taken into custody while distributing Kurdish dailies Azadiye Welat and Özgür Gündem in Mazıdağı early on Tuesday, while her husband, together with Ramazan Güneş and Mehmet Selim Kaya, was detained as a result of a police operation at evening hours in the same day. Two-months pregnant Yasemin Yılmaz reportedly suffered a miscarriage while in custody at Mardin Police Headquarters on the 6th. After being taken to a hospital, Yılmaz was brought back to the police station.

All four detainees were remanded in custody after bearing testimony to a court in the district of Mazıdağı.

Yasemin Yılmaz, mother of three, has been detained and assaulted by police a number of times since 2012. Following her detention and release in late March, she was once again taken into custody on 25 April when she was also assaulted by police officers because of her objection to arbitrary body search and id check. She was subjected to further assaults at the police station. Yılmaz was later taken into custody on 26 September upon the order by the public prosecutor of Mazıdağı.
