In Oslo, a concert was organised for Solidarity with Kurdistan and Freedom for Leader Öcalan in the city centre.
The concert, organised by the Norwegian Federation of Kurdish Associations (NCDK-OSLO), was supported by many political parties, civil society organisations and trade unions.
Serhildan Reşko spoke on behalf of NCDK-OSLO and the Organising Committee at the event which started with a minute of silence. Drawing attention to the global campaign ‘Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, a Political Solution to the Kurdish Question’ launced in October 2023, he stated that the struggle should be increased. Reşko condemned the silence of the international community against the invasion attacks of the Turkish state and saluted World Kobanê Day.
Omer Amin, European Representative of Tevgera Azadi (Freedom Movement), condemned the attacks of the occupying Turkish state against Kurdistan and the KDP, the ruling party in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, which collaborates with Turkey. He also underlined the importance of the global campaign for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.
Ingunn Gjerstad, President of Oslo LO, the largest trade union in Norway, also addressed the crowd and said: “Every year, Kurds and their friends are at the forefront with us for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan. As Oslo LO, we believe that the freedom of Mr. Abdullah Öcalan is a must for peace and dialogue. Abdullah Öcalan's unlawful solitary confinement in isolation for 26 years is unacceptable.”
The slogans ‘Freedom for Öcalan, Peace in Kurdistan’ and ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ (Woman, Life, Freedom) were chanted.
The demonstration continued with a concert. Norwegian music group Knut Reiersrud & Marit Halvorsen, Latin American Xavier Valverde and Kurdish artists Welat Kobanê and Nejman Sindî took the stage.
