Freedom for Öcalan Vigil enters 434th week

The Freedom for Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan Vigil in front of the European Council in Strasbourg as entered its 434th week.

This week a group of Kurdish people from Bremen has taken over the Freedom for Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan Vigil.

The Bremen group took over the action from activists coming from the city of Mannheim and includes activists Selahaddin Taşçı, Vedat Demir and Abdullah Sonay.

The activists underlined that the demands of the Kurdish people are not taken into consideration by the world public opinion, and added that European institutions do not fulfill their duties. Pointing out to the wrong attitude of institutions such as the European Council and the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), the activists stated that this attitude means supporting the policies of massacre against Kurds.

The activists demanded the European institutions to "take the Vigil as a serious action" and pointed out at the protests held on Sunday.

The activists said that the protests organized for Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan on 10 October will continue and invited "all Kurds to act in the spirit of mobilization again."

434 weeks of Vigil

The Freedom for Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan Vigil in front of the Council of Europe was launched on 25 June 2012. Around 2,000 people from different European countries have participated in the action, which has reached its 434th week.

While representatives of Kurdish institutions in Europe take over the vigil at regular intervals, the European Kurdish Women's Movement (TJK-E) takes over the vigil once a month.
