The ‘Freedom for Öcalan’ Bus has arrived in Austria on Sunday after finishing its tour in a total of 37 cities in Sweden, Holland, Belgium and Germany so far.
The tour of bus, which departed after the 20th International Culture Festival in the German city of Mannheim on 8 September, aims to raise awareness and promote active public support for Kurdish leader Öcalan’ freedom.
After the bus arrived in the city of Linz on Sunday, a rally was held in Hauptsplatz where demonstrators called attention to the ongoing hunger strike of Kurdish political prisoners in protest against the Turkish state’s approach towards the jailed Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Demonstrators called on all Kurdish people in Europe to support the resistance of prisoners by adopting the ‘Freedom for Öcalan’ campaign.
The events in the city continued with a public meeting at the Kurdish Culture Association at evening hours. Speaking here, the Confederation of Kurdish Associations in Europe (KON-KURD) President Ýsmet Kem reminded of the resistance displayed in Amed Prison 30 years ago and remarked that the Kurdish people are today facing the same duty of announcing the Imralý and other prisons’ resistance to the world.
The bus has left for the city of Innsbruck early on Monday.
