French MP calls on the government to act on the Kurdish question

French politician Muriel Ressiguier described the usurpation of HDP municipalities as the latest circle in Ankara government’s repressive measures against the Kurds.

France Insoumise Movement MP for Montpellier region, Muriel Ressiguier, submitted a written question to the French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs regarding the Turkish regime’s seizure of HDP-run Diyarbakır, Van and Mardin municipalities and arrest of hundreds of people on August 19.

Ressiguier noted that protests ongoing since August 19 to reclaim the usurped municipalities have been brutally attacked by the police.

Referring the Human Rights Watch statement that “Turkish Interior Ministry’s removal of three democratically elected mayors in the major municipalities of the Kurdish southeast and eastern regions blatantly violates the rights of voters and suspends local democracy”, the French MP described this incident as the latest circle in Ankara government’s repressive measures against the Kurds.

Recalling that 92 out of the 102 HDP-run municipalities had been usurped before, Ressiguier highlighted that; “Solution to the conflicts in the region lies on the recognition of Kurds as a binding party and assurance of their fundamental rights.”

Insoumise Movement MP stressed that; “France should adopt a clear stance on the Kurdish question within the framework of diplomatic efforts for the protection of human rights.”

Ressiguier asked the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs what the French government was planning to do concerning the promotion of Kurdish people’s human rights and standing against the Turkish government’s repressive practices within its boundaries.
