The Mesopotamia Migration Monitoring and Research Association (GÖÇ-DER) held a press conference on Abdullah Öcalan’s “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” at the association building in Amed (tr: Diyarbakır).
The press statement, read in Kurdish and Turkish, said: “All the points mentioned in the call by Mr. Abdullah Öcalan are a historic call to end the conflicts that have been going on for decades and to build and shape the common future of the peoples on the basis of peace.”
“In this process which started with the call made by Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, one of the construction stages of the process of peace and democracy is to open the way for the Kurdish people, who were indisputably forcibly displaced, to return to their ancient lands to which they are bound by unbreakable ties. The necessary steps in this direction must be taken urgently.”
The statement concluded: “In this historic process, we demand that steps regarding the process be taken and the requirements of democratic politics and law be fulfilled as soon as possible as a requirement of human rights and the construction of peace and democratic politics. We invite the public and the competent authorities to heed this call for the construction of peace and a common future, for the democratization of Turkey and for the peace process not to be interrupted.”
