German Left Party in solidarity with the HDP

The party leadership of DIE LINKE decided to support the fight for the restoration of democracy in Turkey under the lead of the HDP.

On 2 June 2018, the party leadership of DIE LINKE (German Left Party) decided to support the fight for the restoration of democracy in Turkey and hopes "that the HDP will not only re-enter the Turkish parliament, but can contribute through its election results that the time of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan comes to an end ".

The decision of the party executive said; "On June 24, 2018, elections will take place in Turkey. "It will be decided not only about a new parliament, but also whether the current president Erdoğan will get a renewed term. The parliamentary and presidential elections in Turkey mark a turning point in the history of the modern Turkish republic. If Recep Tayyip Erdoğan succeeds in obtaining a parliamentary majority and a majority for his personal re-election, he will introduce a presidential system, giving him unlimited power and almost completely disempowering parliament."

No other party in Turkey is persecuted like the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) because it is an opposition party that wants to restore democracy in Turkey and Kurdistan and end the "Erdoğan era". The HDP is democratic, it recognizes all minorities in Turkey, it is for the separation of religion and state, it is anti-militarist, it is internationalist, it is left," says the decision of the party executive.

“In order for the HDP to achieve a good result in Germany too, DIE LINKE wants to give its support to the friends of the HDP, who will cast their vote here.

DIE LINKE will also participate in the "Election Observations on Site".
