German Green Party deputy Claudia Roth and a delegation accompanying her have arrived in Şırnak's Cizre district on Friday following the visit they paid to Federal Kurdistan this week.
After the visit to Şırnak Bar Association, the German delegation paid the next visit to Hanım Onur, former deputy mayor of Cizre, who was arrested in the so-called Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) in September 2011 and released in mid February in consideration of the situation of her children, five years-old leukaemia patient Solin and seven years-old Mithat who has epilepsy.
German deputy Roth, who has paid often visits to Kurdistan and held talks with prisoners, lawyers, women and human rights defenders for years now, said that they, the friends of Turks and Kurds, hoped the ongoing process of talks for a solution to the Kurdish question would end up in peace.
Remarking that the history in Turkey has witnessed great pains and too much bloodshed and tear, Roth said that “I hope both sides will make an endeavour for the primary steps they are to take”.
Roth pointed out that they were ready to make any contribution they could to the peace process and noted they were hopeful for new constitution to promise stability and democracy in Turkey.
German deputy said they supported Öcalan's call for disarmament and withdrawal, adding; “We have been saying for years now that the silence of arms is the first step to be taken on the way to peace. Öcalan's call could indeed be the first step to bring peace to Turkey. I see his call as a first step which should be answered by the other side and followed by other steps to enable the development of democracy”.
