Gökçek laid to rest amidst police violence

The remains of Grup Yorum member Ibrahim Gökçek, who died two days after calling of his 323 days of death fast, was brought by his family and relatives from the morgue of Reşadiye Cemetery this morning and taken to Aleppo Cemetery.
Numerous armored vehicles, riot police and special operations officers blockaded the cemetery. Sultan Gökçek, the wife of Gökçek, who is currently in prison, was brought to the cemetery by the gendarme.
Sultan Gökçek opened and looked at her husband's face and said goodbye. Then, the funeral services were performed and the remains buried. During the burial, slogans were chanted, "Ibrahim Gökçek is Immortal", "Grup Yorum cannot be silenced".
Nobody was allowed close to the cemetery during the burial.
After the burial, a person who wanted to open a banner was beaten by the police near the cemetery. Friends of Gökçek who wanted to make a speech were also prevented from doing so.
Those who wanted to sing a Grup Yorum song, "Bize Ölüm Yok" [No death for us] were harassed by police and started to shout the slogan "Grup Yorum Cannot be Silenced".
Gökçek's relatives protested the authorities for not having "respect for the mourn. You fill the place with police. You made a mother run after her son from Istanbul to Kayseri."
Gökçek's lawyer Ayşegül Çağatay said: "They attacked those who wanted to sing at the grave."
Çağatay said that Sultan Gökçek was brought to the family house and there was no information about when she would be taken back to prison.
