Goran (Change) Movement has announced withdrawal from the parliament of Federal Kurdistan Region.
Speaking to Rudaw daily about the decision, Goran Movement's Leader Kardo Mihemed said that they would not be attending the parliament's sessions as of 20 August which -he said- was the ending date of the official term of office. Mihemed said the parliament's sessions as of this date would be unlawful.
Goran leader remarked that they would only be attending some sessions of the parliament to remind the parliament that “it is not illegitimate and can therefore not make decisions on behalf of the people of Kurdistan”.
According to Mihemed, it is also unlawful for the parliament to extend the term of office of Massoud Barzani, the president of Kurdistan Regional Government.
The parliament has recently ruled the extension of Barzani's duty term to 2015 and the parliament term to October.
Goran Movement and other parties in western Kurdistan opposition have objected to the extension of Barzani's duty term and demanded the practice of elections on time.
