It was expected but Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan waited until late last night before going through with his Cabinet reshuffle. Four new ministers have been named after a meeting with President Abdullah Gül.
Former İstanbul Governor Muammer Güler replaced İdris Naim Şahin as interior minister, while Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Deputy Chairman Ömer Çelik becomes the new minister of culture and tourism. Nabi Avcı, who heads the parliamentary Education Commission, was named as new education minister and AK Party Edirne deputy Mehmet Müezzinoğlu replaced Recep Akdağ as health minister.
The press have been speculating about the meaning of the new Cabinet and its new priorities. The reality is that there is going to be no substantial change in the AK Party's main policies.
