Green Party candidate: Sanctions on Turkey should be concrete

German Green Party candidate to the coming federal elections, Katrin Goring-Eckardt called on the Merkel government to clarify and intensify pending sanctions against the Erdoğan regime.

German Green Party member Katrin Goring-Eckardt joined the morning show of German state television ARD, and expressed her wish for the travel sanctions announced by German Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel, to be made clear and applicable.

Remarking that mainly the travel warning was restricted with general expressions, Katrin Goring-Eckardt criticized the Merkel-led government, saying: “Your warnings are general and the vow of sanctions is left up in the air.”

“THE SANCTIONS SHOULD BE CONCRETE”

The Green Party executive stressed that the sanctions should target the economy of the Turkish President Erdoğan, and said, "Erdoğan's most vulnerable point is the economy. He gets infuriated easily when his economy is targeted."

Katrin Goring-Eckardt noted that the economic sanctions were declared in a general manner alike the travel warnings, and made the following call to the government: “Sanctions need to be concrete. Mainly the Hermes credit guarantee provided to German companies for export and investment in Turkey should be halted.”
