Guven: I will continue until my demand is met

Leyla Guven, on a hunger strike for 47 days demanding the isolation imposed on Ocalan be lifted, said: “I am on this struggle for a purpose. I will continue until my demand is met. I will continue my action whether I am in prison or outside."

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari MP Leyla Guven, who has been on a hunger strike for 47 days demanding the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan be lifted, held an open visit with her family in the Diyarbakir Type E Closed Prison. Guven’s daughter Sabiha Temizkan spoke about her mother’s health and shared her message.

On Guven’s health, Temizkan said: “She wasn’t too bad, I was expecting worse. She can walk on her own. She has less energy now, she’s a little fatigued. She has lost some 10 kilos. Her general health markers are not too bad. She can still take care of her needs on her own. But she does get low blood pressure, fatigue, headaches and insomnia.”

Temizkan said Guven is strong and has high morale: “My mother said she is very happy, and she is on this resistance and this struggle for a purpose, that she feels very peaceful and will continue until her demand is met.”

According to Temizkan, when Leyla Guven was asked whether she would end her protest if she is released on the hearing of her case to be held on December 26, she said she would continue even if she is released. Temizkan said Guven won’t be attending the hearing and that her health wouldn’t allow it.
