The foreign policy spokesman for DIE LINKE, Gregor Gysi, spoke to ANF about Turkey's attacks on the autonomous region of northern and eastern Syria. “Syria did not attack Turkey. It is not a defensive war. There is also no decision by the Security Council according to which Turkey is allowed to carry out attacks in Syria or Iraq," Gysi clarified.
Gysi described the statements made by the Federal Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, during her visit to Turkey on Tuesday as "outrageous". Faeser had asked the Turkish leadership to be "proportionate" in the bombing of northern Syria and "spare civilians".
"This is not about proportionate force, but about the fact that the entire bombardment is contrary to international law. In addition, many civilians were killed. Furthermore, it must be remembered that the Kurds in particular conducted the ground war against the Islamic State and in so doing did us a great service. The Kurds in Iraq protected the Yazidis. That too is a credit,” emphasized the foreign policy spokesman for DIE LINKE.
