HDK to ask the truth on Reyhanlı Massacre

People's Democratic Congress (HDK) has announced that it will stage sit-in and candle-lighting acts in all provinces, where it has provincial councils, at 19.30 local time on Wednesday evening. HDK will demand the disclosure of the truth on Reyhanlı massacre in which dozens of people were killed and injured as a result of twin blasts in Hatay's Reyhanlı district on 11 May.

HDK, expressing its condolences to the people of Reyhanlı, underlined that "It is the AKP government's war policies against Syria that have made people suffer this pain. We are taking to the streets to say stop to war policies".

HDK criticized the broadcast ban the government imposed on news and reports on Reyhanlı massacre, commenting the ban as an attempt to cover up the massacre, like what had happened in Roboski massacre as well. "The government which has failed to disclose the perpetrators of the Roboski massacre so far has relied on the publication ban this time, using it as a shield against all kinds of manipulation". HDK called for the urgent ending of the publication ban and the cencorship imposed on the Turkish press.

HDK also urged on the AKP government to end its policy siding with support to the Free Syrian Army and provocation of the civil war in Syria.

HDK ended its statement by calling on all peoples in Turkey to share the pain of Reyhanlı people and to display solidarity with its demonstrations to voice people's demand for the ending of war policies.
