Yeliz Karaaslan, Co-mayoral candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) for Ağrı province, was taken into custody during a demonstration against the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan two days ago.

Karaaslan has been referred to court today with a demand for her arrest and she was remanded in custody for allegedly “spreading propaganda for an illegal organization” on the grounds of press statements made in 2014.

Karaaslan was sent to Patnos L Type Prison.
