HDP Ağrı MP Taşdemir: The attacks are a sign of weakness

"Despite all the efforts by the government to destroy the HDP, there is an HDP reality that does not accept this repression, does not kneel, insists on its rights, protects its legitimacy in the streets, in prison and in the parliament.”

Reacting to the detention of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) central executive members and former MPs, HDP Ağrı MP Dilan Dirayet Taşdemir said that the attacks against the HDP were not coincidental.

Taşdemir added that the government has tried every method to destroy HDP because the ferment of democracy in the country is the HDP.

The HDP deputy said that the AKP-MHP government does not have any legitimacy both in domestic and international politics, and added: "The HDP's 7-year experience of struggle has revealed that the so-called invincible powers are shattered and the artificial ideological patterns they create are enemy of the society. The HDP is a sort of litmus paper. The ruling party is aware of the fact that it cannot exist without destroying the HDP and the Kurdish demand for freedom."

Reminding that everyone who demands democracy is targeted, not just the HDP and Kurds, Taşdemir said that the government is trying to hold on by fuelling nationalism. "Despite all the efforts by the government to destroy the HDP, there is an HDP reality that does not accept this repression, does not kneel, insists on its rights, protects its legitimacy in the streets, in prison and in the parliament.”

Taşdemir continued: “The more they attack, the more they commit crimes; the more they commit crimes the more they attack. Despite the war methods, arguments and press power they have behind them, there is a people that they cannot convince. There is a strong belief in the society that HDP is the ferment of democracy in this country. Therefore, it is not a coincidence that the attacks target the people who resist, the HDP and women, who add morale and value to the society.”

The HDP deputy continued: “Wherever there is a women's struggle, in other words, where there is life, the demand for freedom, equality and justice is carried by the woman herself. The attack on women has a historical background. One way to take society hostage in the face of this persistent struggle is to suppress the women's struggle. "

Taşdemir said that the government is getting weaker and added: "When we look back, it is not possible to talk about the constitution, law, justice, democracy in this country. The society is experiencing a state of corruption. [This is the country in which] two people have been thrown by soldiers from a military helicopter in Van and one has lost his life. In a country with a normal or minimal legal system, this should have caused indignation. But here, this [murder] is reflected as a show of strength and as an example.”
