HDP calls for an early election

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairs Sebahat Tuncel and Ertuğrul Kürkçü and HDP deputy co-chair Sırrı Süreyya Önder held a press conference about the recent political developments related with the bribery and fraud operation.

Speaking here, co-chair Kürkçü pointed out that it is not possible for the present government of Turkey to eradicate the corruption, denial and right violations faced by the society.

Kürkçü remarked that the government cannot possibly explain all the happenings as a conspiracy, adding that; "The coalition that constitutes the government has cracked up. One side of the coalition has started to do the other side what it has done to the people and to the opposition so far".

Responding to the attempts to present the CHP (Republican People's Party) as an alternative in this process, Kürkçü said the government and the Gülen sect were as like as two peas in a pod, and that bringing the CHP to the power would not mean building a new order in the current system".

Kürkçü called for an early election, saying that; "There are three elections ahead of us and there is no obstacle to join these elections in order for the elimination of the present government and parliament and the establishment of a new parliament on the basis of a democratic, libertarian and egalitarian elections and political parties law. The people are done with this government now".

Kürkçü demanded urgent arrangements to ensure the release of all opponent, revolutionary and patriotic circles of the society jailed within the AKP government's period.

"We trust ourselves and our people. There is a new party to replace the government, the HDP, which is candidate to the government. We will share the voice the people raise against the government and the country should perform early election, it is not enough to change the Cabinet", Kürkçü underlined.

Speaking after, HDP co-chair Tuncel emphasized that the Cabinet reshuffle will not help overcome the current crisis which -she said- has become unmanageable by now. "What the government must do is to have the people go to the polls for the determination of Turkey's route. The "deep state" or the "parallel state" is a reality of the Turkish Republic whose governments have all resorted to this deep state so far and accepted it for the sake of their governments. The sect (Gülen movement) and the AKP government have been fighting together until today but now they are fighting against each other. If there is a conspiracy in question, it is against the people", Tuncel said.

HDP deputy co-chair Sırrı Süreyya Önder criticized the government for employing the words people have been using against unlawfulness, injustice and cruelty for years now, and emphasized that the HDP's early election proposal is the most democratic way to pave the way for democracy and democratic politics in Turkey.
