HDP calls for support for Yatağan workers

The HDP Executive Committee has made a call for support for the campaign against privatisation being waged by workers at the Yatağan, Yeniköy and Kemerköy power stations and by miners.

The Peoples Democratic Party (HDP) Executive Committee issued a written statement in which it drew attention to efforts to plunder power stations and mines by privatisation and sacking of workers, adding: "We stand in solidarity with the just struggle of the Yatağan, Yeniköy and Kemerköy power station workers and miners against privatisation. The AKP government, that thinks it will halt the struggle against attacks on trade union rights, theft of severance pay and the struggle for peace and freedom through state coercion and police violence, is continuing its assault on the workers in Muğla."

"The governor declared a virtual state of emergency in Muğla province for a week during the visit of the Prime Minister, using police armoured cars, gas and police violence," issuing a call for solidarity with the workers at Yatağan.

The statement demanded an end to privatisation policies that impoverish workers, saying: "the workers of Yatağan are not alone in the growing struggle against the plundering of factories and power stations that were constructed on the sweat and toil of working people. We call on everyone who opposes the privatisation of mines, rivers, coasts, forests and public utilities that are our common property to demonstrate solidarity with the Yatağan workers as they did with the Gezi Resistance, and to step up the struggle in all spheres".
