A delegation of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) participated in the Congress of the Party of European Socialists (PES) in Berlin. Members of the HDP delegation were co-chair Mithat Sancar, foreign policy spokesperson Feleknas Uca, Council of Europe representative Faik Yağızay and Germany representative Leyla Imret.
Sancar addressed the congress and stressed that European social democrats should strengthen their cooperation and solidarity among themselves in order to counter the rise of the extreme right and autocratic regimes in Europe and beyond. The HDP co-chair also spoke with European politicians about his party's views on the upcoming elections in Turkey and met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, among others. Feleknas Uca took part in a women's meeting of the PES and spoke about the HDP's women's policy and experiences with the gender-parity dual leadership.
The former Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven was elected as the new PES President. The Party of European Socialists (PES) is a European political party. It comprises 33 social democratic, socialist and labour parties from across the European Union, the United Kingdom and Norway, as well as associated parties from several other European countries and Turkey. In the European Parliament, it has 135 of the 751 MEPs. The PES Group, which includes other parties, is called the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament (S&D) and has 145 members.
