HDP delegation meets KCK officials

A delegation consisting of HDP Group co-chairs İdris Baluken and Pervin Buldan and Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreya Önder met members of the KCK executive council in Kandil, following their meeting in İmralı with Kurdish People's leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The meeting of the HDP delegation with KCK officials which lasted over 8 hours coincided with a Turkish government "resolution meeting" in Ankara. HDP MP Baluken provided information yesterday regarding their meeting, which discussed developments in Kurdistan and the Middle East, first and foremost Kobanê, Sinjar and Makhmur, the resolution process in Turkey, and the AKP's stance and general political developments regarding the process in Turkey.

KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) officials have told the HDP delegation that the delaying tactics of the Turkish government are jeopardising the resolution process, and warned that the possibility of the government establishing a buffer zone would end the process, adding that they would never accept this. The KCK issued an appeal to all young people to resist for Kobanê and strongly criticised the institutions that support ISIS.

Call on youth to 'join the resistance for Kobanê‘

Baluken said that KCK officials had stressed the vital importance of Kobanê for the whole of Kurdistan, and that they had urged Kurds to support the historic resistance being waged by the YPG. Baluken added that the KCK had called on the youth to 'join the resistance in Kobanê', and stressed that the countries that claimed to have come together to oppose ISIS had not supported the resistance in Kobanê. They said these regional and international forces that had nurtured ISIS would thus be responsible for any consequences. The KCK officials had stressed that the intention of ISIS was to create a new Sinjar massacre, and that the resistance led by the YPG was not only defending Kobanê, but also protecting the honour of the Kurdish people and of all humanity. The KCK said these developments illustrated once more the importance of a national conference, and that all Kurdish parties and organisations had a responsibility and duty to overcome the existing shortcomings.

'A buffer zone would threaten the process of resolution'

The KCK officials said they were closely following debates in Turkey regarding the establishing of a buffer zone, adding that they would never accept such a thing. Baluken said the KCK officials had warned that "such an initiative would seriously threaten the internal process of resolution."

The AKP has not abandoned its delaying tactics and procrastination

Baluken said they had held comprehensive discussions regarding the process of resolution, adding that the KCK officials had expressed their concerns over the AKP's approach. Baluken said: "They made the point that attacks on schools providing Kurdish education demonstrated that the AKP has not abandoned its nationalist stance, and that such attacks were unacceptable. They stressed that such attacks damaged the process."

Öcalan conducting the process unilaterally

Baluken said the KCK had emphasised the selfless role played by Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, and that now was the time not for words but for steps to be taken.
Baluken added: "They said they expected steps to be taken regarding the secretariat, monitoring body and broadening of the negotiating delegation mentioned by Mr Öcalan, and improvements to his conditions, to be taken without delay. We will make an official request for meetings with the government and for a meeting with Mr Öcalan in the coming days."

Government procrastinating and playing for time

Baluken said they had met the state and government delegation prior to going to Kandil, adding that the government was procrastinating regarding the road map. "The government said the road map would be clarified by the end of September. These mechanisms and general principles (secretariat, monitoring council, broadening of negotiating council, and improvement of Öcalan's conditions), must be concretised. After that it will be necessary to share the road map with the people."
