HDP delegation: Process is under serious strain

In a statement the HDP delegation has stated that the ‘process of resolution’ is under serious strain due to regional developments and the lack of steps towards negotiations. The delegation warned the government, saying that the meeting they will hold with Mr Öcalan in the coming days is of crucial importance.

The HDP delegation that visits Mr Öcalan has issued a statement regarding the process of resolution that is at breaking point on account of the AKP government’s failure to take steps and its support for ISIS.

The statement, issued by İdris Baluken, Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder under the title HDP İmralı Delegation, stressed that both developments in the region, particularly in Kobanê, and the lack of progress in the forming of transitional mechanisms for negotiations had severely strained the process.

'Rojava, Secretariat and monitoring body, attacks by security forces’

The statement said: "Our delegation, which has been involved in serious endeavour to ensure the evolution of the environment of non-conflict into a lasting peace since the beginning of the process, has held lengthy meetings in the last week with KCK officials in Kandil, and then for the last few days in Ankara with government and state officials." It emphasised the following points:

"Turkey’s policy towards Rojava, first and foremost Kobanê, and its effect on the process of resolution,

The setting up of negotiating mechanisms, in particular a secretariat and monitoring body, and agreement on a joint road map,

Disproportionate interventions and law and order measures taken by the security forces towards mass democratic protests in recent weeks, and the consequences of these interventions and measures."

The delegation stressed it was important that concrete steps be taken rapidly in order for the process to progress, adding that in this context the next few days are of vital importance if the blockages are to be overcome.

'It is vital the government clarify its position’

The statement said that it was necessary for Turkey to take effective measures to eliminate the threat of massacre in Kobanê in addition to providing humanitarian assistance, adding:

"It is possible for the situation in Rojava to be normalised if the tasks imposed by the process and a joint historical past are fulfilled. It is therefore crucial that the government clarify its political stance.  This is important not only for the future of the process, but is also one of the principal factors that will determine regional peace, stability and the democratic future of peoples.”

“In particular, efforts to obstruct solidarity protests with Kobanê, first and foremost in Suruç, will be seen as connivance with massacre. What needs to be done is not to obstruct our people’s solidarity with Kobanê, but to agree on the creation of means for the consolidation of such solidarity.

It should be borne in mind that if the attempts to perpetrate massacres in Rojava are not extinguished, the whole region will be brought to the brink of a disaster that will last for years."

Meeting with Öcalan

The statement stressed the importance of the meeting the delegation will hold with Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan in a few days’ time, saying: "The approach of Mr Öcalan, who has always predicted strains in the process and made appropriate warnings, regarding both the developments in Rojava and the course of the process, will be of historic importance as regards the democratic future of the entire region. We have shared this view at all our meetings".

The statement concluded by saying the delegation has made an official application regarding its visit to Imralı.
