HDP files criminal complaint about torture of 10 people in earthquake zone

HDP Law and Human Rights Commission and party lawyers filed a criminal complaint about the torture of 10 people, including the province executive Rıdvan Atman, in the Iskenderun district of Hatay.

In the application, the HDP requested that action be taken against the governor of Hatay and the Chief of Police, Iskenderun District Police Chief and public officials who committed the crime of torture.

In the criminal complaint, it was emphasized to the prosecutor that the allegations about the detainees did not reflect the truth.

The complaint said: “Innocent people who lost their relatives, had their homes and workplaces destroyed because of the earthquake, were severely tortured by law enforcement personnel. Torture is prohibited in the Constitution, the Turkish Penal Code No. 5237 and many international conventions. The prohibition of torture and ill-treatment is guaranteed by law on an international scale. Unfortunately, the suspects in the file were brutally beaten, they had severe bruises on their faces and bodies, they were insulted. We present to your office the images of torture and ill-treatment in question and the images of the people who were battered.”
