HDP: Turkey's Libya motion a step towards war

"We are faced with a government that has an inexhaustible urge for conflict. The occupation of north and east of Syria was not enough, now the government wants to move towards the Libyan deserts," said HDP's Oluç.

Saruhan Oluç, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) group vice president, held a press conference at the party's headquarters to discuss the current political situation.

Stating that the Libyan motion adopted with the AKP-MHP votes at the Parliament was a step of war, Oluç continued: "All the opposition parties have taken a common stance. Outside the parliament, social opposition is also very determined. The civil society had said 'no' to this motion. The Libyan motion is actually a step towards the war waged by the AKP-MHP government."

Oluç explained why the HDP voted no to the motion: "Foreign policy is addressed with acts of war by this government. Diplomacy has no place. We are faced with a government that has an inexhaustible urge for conflict. The occupation of north and east of Syria was not enough, now the government wants to move towards the Libyan deserts."

Oluç added that mercenaries linked to jihadist groups have already been transferred to Libya, after having been transferred to Syria.

Stating that the murder of Qassem Soleimani in Iraq will have serious consequences, Oluç said: "The region is boiling. Our advice is actually diplomacy, strengthening the negotiations instead of playing into the hands of others that are leading the game. Today, the death of Qassem Soleimani is another step towards war. With this step, the United States has actually started a war against Iran. This is an extremely dangerous step."
