HDP meets with EU ambassadors to discuss usurped municipalities

The meeting was attended by ambassadors of EU member countries, Switzerland and Norway.

A delegation of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) attended a meeting hosted by the delegation of the European Union to Turkey.

The HDP delegation was made up of co-mayors removed from office on August 19; Mardin Co-mayor Ahmet Türk, Van Co-mayor Bedia Özgökçe Ertan and Amed Co-mayor Selçuk Mızraklı, and HDP General Vice President Nazmi Gür.

The meeting in Turkish capital Ankara was attended by ambassadors of EU member countries as well as of Switzerland and Norway.

According to the statement made by HDP Press Office, the meeting lasted around two hours during which the local and regional reflections of the Trustee Coup were discussed.

The statement said; “The co-mayors removed through the Trustee Coup stated that they would not accept this coup, that they would enhance the democratic legitimate struggle against it and take the issue to the European Court of Human Rights. During the meeting, diplomatic mission representatives also expressed their concerns on the process. It was further question if the government’s discourses that the dismissals were a temporary measure would turn out precise. The EU Delegation stated that they were following the process closely and would continue to follow the issue.”
