HDP members welcome MP Leyla Birlik during release from prison

HDP Şırnak MP Leyla Birlik was welcomed by party officials in front of the Silivri Prison from which she has been released today afternoon.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Şırnak MP Leyla Birlik was arrested in Şırnak on November 4 and put in Silivri Prison within the scope of an investigation launched by Şırnak Public Prosecutor's Office. She has been released from prison today after the trial at Şırnak 2nd Heavy Penal Court which she attended through video conference system.

Birlik was welcomed by HDP Istanbul MP Pervin Buldan, Muş MP Burcu Çelik Özkan, Party Assembly Member Rukiye Demir, Istanbul province and district administrators and members as she was released from jail.

Speaking here, Birlik said: “My release is a positive step as we have stated since the beginning that this is an unlawful process and needs to result in releases. Still, I am not enjoying my release as I have left other deputies in jail. Thousands of people remain under arrest because of their thoughts or criticism at the government. Conditions in prison are quite bad and right violations are taking place, which we have experienced ourselves. Thousands are being through the same process in jail. I hope my release will be followed by the revival of a democratic and peaceful atmosphere in Turkey. My release means nothing singly. We hope all the other people arrested due to the state of emergency and decrees are released soon.”
