HDP MPs detained and battered by the police for saying “No war”

Police attacked the people joining a demonstration in Amed for democracy and against war. Deputies of the HDP are among those battered and detained in the crackdown.

Kurdish political parties promoted a demonstation in Amed (Diyarbakır) on Monday under the motto “No war, let’s meet in democracy”.

Demonstrators were set to stage a march from HDP (People’s Democratic Party) Kayapınar district office to the Roboski Park, and they were stopped by the police at Dicle Kent Boulevard where the party building is located.

Laying a blocakde in the area with dozens of armored and military vehicles, police first denied the access of HDP Amed MP Dersim Dap to the party building. Dağ and two of her consultants ended up in custody when she objected to the obstruction.

HDP MP Saliha Aydeniz, who protested the intervention, was battered by a policeman reported to be the branch director of anti-terror police department.

In the face of growing interventions, HDP deputies Saliha Aydeniz, Musa Farisoğulları, Semra Güzel and Remziye Tosun staged a sit-in action.

On the other hand, MP Dağ and her consultants were released after being kept in the detention vehicle for 40 minutes. The deputies then went to the party building and made a statement to the press.

HDP Amed provincial branch co-chair Zeyyat Ceylan condemned the blockade and obstruction of the police forces and said the following;

“Democratic politics will prevail. Peace will prevail. We will be resisting against those who take advantage of chaos and war. We will not sacrifice this country to the family benefits of fascism.”

 HDP MP Saliha Aydeniz, who herself was battered by the police, pointed out that they wanted to stage this march to express how democracy and peace should be built. A member of the parliament being beaten in front of cameras is the indication of an order. Those who are attacking us today should know that those whom they rely upon will be called to account before judiciary. The future of peoples will prevail. Peace will prevail.”
