HDP nominates candidates from various identities

HDP's MP andidates are from various backgrounds and identities, many of them women.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) candidates who will contest the 24 June parliamentary elections are getting clear.

HDP co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Sezai Temelli were nominated respectively in Istanbul and Van.

HDP Spokesperson Ayhan Bilgen was confirmed a candidate in Kars. Meral Danış Beştaş, the HDP parliamentary group president, would be candidate in Van.

Garo Paylan, who has Armenian origins, and was a deputy in the current parliament, will be contesting his seat again. Paylan this time will be a candidate in Amed instead of Istanbul.

Parliament Speaker Mithat Sancar, of Arab origins, will be running once again for Mardin.

Turgut Öker and Ali Kenanoglu, known for their Alevi identity, will be contesting for the Istanbul seat, while Kemal Bülbül will be contesting the Antalya seat. 

Tuma Çelik, of Assyrian identity, is representative for Turkey of the European Syriac Union (EU), and Editor in Chief of Sabro Newspaper and will run in Mardin.

Former European MP and Ezidi, Feleknas Uca, who was a deputy in this parliament, has been confirmed as candidate but will run in Batman instead of Amed.

Hüda Kaya, known for her Islamic identity, will be running again in Istanbul.

Member of Democratic Islam Congress (DIK) and Professor of Theology at Dicle University, Dr. Nurettin Turgay will be running for a seat in İzmir.

It was learned that HDK co-spokesperson, Onur Hamzaoglu, who has been detained for 101 days, announced that he would not be a candidate.

The other co-spokesperson of HDK, Gulistan Koçyiğit, will be running in Muş.

Two journalists will be contesting a seat for the HDP: Ahmet Şık in Istanbul 2 and Tayyip Temel in Van.

Two of the lawyers of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan have also been selected as candidates by the HDP. They are Ebru Günay and Cengiz Cicek, from the Asrın Law Office. Günay will contest a seat in Mardin while Çiçek will contest a seat in Van.

Mehmet Öcalan's son (and Abdullah Öcalan’s nephew) Omer Öcalan will be contesting a seat in Urfa. Omer is the former HDP Mardin Provincial Co-Chair.

Turkey left and socialist movements are represented in the HDP through a number of candidates. TIP founding member Baris Atay Hatay and Rıdvan Turan (Socialist Democracy Party executive) will be running in Mersin.

Revolutionary Party Chairman, Musa Piroglu, Dilşad Canbaz from the Federation of Socialist Assemblies, Erkan Baş and Chair of the People's House, Oya Ersoy will all run in Istanbul.

ESP Co-Chair Murat Çepni and Socialist Resettlement Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları will be running in Izmir.

Imam Taşçıer, known for his work for Kurdish national unity, was again nominated a candidate in  Amed.

DTK Co-Chair Bedran Öztürk was nominated again as a candidate in Ağrı.

Jailed DTK Co-Chair Leyla Güven will be running in Hakkari.

Nusrettin Maçin, deputy chairman of the Freedom and Socialist Party (ÖSP) will be running in Urfa.

HDP Group President Filiz Kerestecioğlu, known for her feminist stances, will be running again in Ankara, and Dilek Dirayet Taşdemir, Women's Parliament spokeswoman, will be running again in Ağrı. Serpil Kemalbay, former HDP co-chair will be running in İzmir.

Veli Saçılık, well-known by the public for his actions "We want our jobe back", will be running in Ankara.

Remziye Tosun, who had been stranded in Sur for months during the genocide attacks in the borough of Amed and was arrested with her daughter Beran Tosun, who was only 2 years old, will be running in Amed.

Artist Ferhat Tunç will be running in Aydın, one of the cities where the HDP is ambitious to make a good result in this election.

Author-Academician Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu Kocaeli and economist Erol Katırcıoğlu, will be running in Istanbul.

İdris Baluken, HDP İmrali Delegation Member who was arrested on 4 November 2016 and is currently jailed in Sincan F Type Closed Prison, will be running for Batman this time.

Sirri Sureyya Önder, who was the spokesperson of the Imrali delegation and former Istanbul MP, is not a candidate.

Selçuk Mızraklı, the former Medical Chamber President is a HDP candidate in Amed list and head of list.

Members of DTK Presidency Council Saliha Aydeniz and Musa Farsioglu, Garo Paylan, Hishyar Ozsoy, Imam Tascier, Remziye Tosun, Semra Güzel, Dersim Dag, Abdurrahman Durmuş, Mehmet Temizyüz and Ferda Fahrioğlu are all candidates.
