HDP will conclude the peoples’ meetings they have started against the “one-man regime” with the Resistance Against the Coup Rally to be held on June 5. HDP Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş will also be attending the rally.
Preparation Committee Chair Feremez Erkan declared the rally would be the final activity of the peoples’ meetings events, and said: “Of course our fight for democracy will continue. The rally is just the closing event of the peoples’ meetings.”
Mentioning the June 7 elections, Erkan said “Since the elections, at least 4 events have transpired that can be called ‘coups’. We as the HDP could not stay silent. Our party central planned various public meetings to this end and we realized them in 29 places.”
Stating that a one-man regime can not be accepted, Erkan said “This is a concerning situation for all of us. Our freedoms, vital rights and environment are under threat.”
“THE RALLY IS VITALLY IMPORTANT”
Preparation Committee Chair stated that it was a big responsibility and it was a reponsibility for all and said, “We need to conduct a struggle on the democratic field. We are prepared to fulfill our duty as a party and as members and administrators. And we will!”
Erkan stressed that the biggest support they expected was from the public and announced that the June 5 rally was of vital importance, and said: “We will have shown our reaction when we fill the Bakırköy Halk Pazarı grounds.”
Erkan said the infrastructural preparations of the Preparation Committee were completed and they were waiting for the reply to their appeal to the İstanbul Governorate for the permission.
Erkan mentioned there were other alternatives if the appeal gets rejected, and said: “But it should be accepted. Because the grounds we applied for is an official rally grounds. And we want to hold a rally as a political party.”
Pointing to the rally held by the AKP recently, Erkan touched upon the “security” excuse cited to prevent demonstrations and said, “The grounds for rejection using this excuse is thus voided.”
“WE WANT TO FILL THE BAKIRKOY GROUNDS”
Erkan said, “This is our legal right, they have to acknowledge it!” and continued, pointing out the massacres in Nusaybin and Cizre and the war in Kurdistan: “We are experiencing the pain. Our grief is too big, too deep.”
Erkan said that the only way to prevent the same grief to occur again is to fight against it, and concluded: “We want to fill the Bakırköy grounds on that day to voice our concerns. We know that our peoples will answer our call.”
Erkan called for attendance to the “Democratic Resistance Against the Coup” rally to be held on June 5 at 12:00 in Bakırköy Halk Pazarı.
