HDP Party Assembly member stabbed in Ankara

HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Party Assembly (PM) member Ahmet Karataş has been targeted by a knife attack early Tuesday morning. Karataş's throat has been slit by an unknown assailant who entered the HDP Ankara provincial organization's office and attacked the PM member.

According to the reports coming through, a person claiming to have just arrived from Erzurum to Ankara called the HDP office early in the morning before coming to the party office at Mithatpaşa Street soon later.

HDP PM member who was in the office and opened the door was both stabbed in the leg and his throat slit by the assailant who managed to flee the scene, as is also understood from the blood stain on the stairs of the building.

The incident was reported to the police by the secretary who came to the office after the attack.

While police are continuing examinations at the scene, the assailant is reported to have dropped his phone in the building.

Karataş who has been rushed to Ankara Numune Hospital is reported to be facing a life-threatening situation.

Speaking about the incident, HDP Ankara provincial chairperson Orhan Çelebi said they didn't know yet the details of the attack which -he said- has most probably targeted the party itself.

Çelebi called on the ruling AKP government to review its statements regarding the HDP.
