HDP: Refugees are under great threat due to coronavirus outbreak

The HDP said that refugees on the border are under great threat due to coronavirus and called for urgent measures to be taken.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Immigration and Refugee Commission co-spokesperson Gülsüm Ağaoğlu issued a statement today regarding the threat posed to refugees by the coronavirus pandemic.

The statement said: "Refugees at the Turkey-Greece border are under a huge threat. While the refugees are already struggling with heavy problems such as hunger, thirst, nutrition and shelter the new coronavirus outbreak increased the concerns in terms of safety. The Government should make the necessary interventions in a short time as the infectious virus must be taken under control or it will affect the refugees and the people caring and working for them, causing irreparable damage."

Prevention and treatment should be guaranteed

The HDP called "on the government to meet the most basic needs of refugees, to take action as refugees are most likely to be infected with Covid-19 due to their circumstances, and to treat refugees who have been detected with the virus."
