HDP retreats from today's discussion of constitutional amendments

HDP group has decided to retreat from today's session of discussion on constitutional amendments in the Turkish parliament in response to HDP MP Garo Paylan's removal from three sessions of the discussion for speaking of the Armenian genocide.

As the discussion on constitutional amendments in the Turkish parliament continues in its sixth day, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has decided to retreat from today's session.

The retreat of the HDP group came as a response to the HDP MP Garo Paylan's removal from three sessions of the discussion because of him describing what was done to Armenians, Assyrians, Greeks and Jews during 1913-1923 as a “genocide”.

HDP Group Deputy Chair Filiz Kerestecioğlu said Paylan's removal from the sessions of discussion and the lynching attempt against him was an unprecedented case.

Kerestecioğlu pointed out that the restriction of Garo Paylan's freedom to speak and to do politics was actually an attitude adopted against all the HDP members, and announced their retreat from the talks being held today.
