HDP’s Başaran: End of the isolation is the demand of all Kurds

Talking about the hunger strikes, HDP deputy Ayse Acar Basaran said: “End of the isolation is demand of the entire Kurdish people. The government are threatening the country's future”.

HDP and DBP Hakkari provincial organizations held a press conference asking to listen to the demand of the hunger strikers to end isolation against the Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The press conference, held at the HDP provincial building, underlined that DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari deputy Leyla Güven has been on hunger strike for 120 days.

The conference was attended by DBP member Zahide Besi, HDP and DBP executives and municipal co-mayor candidates Seher Kadiroğlu Ataş and Cihan Karaman.

HDP Batman MP Ayse Acar Basaran, said: “End of the isolation is not only the demand of hunger strikers but of the whole Kurdish people. As we approach 8 March, we can see how heavy the isolation is on women. This isolation affects the peoples of Turkey, youth, beliefs, children. Isolation means war. Demanding the end of isolation means asking for peace, defending freedom."

Başaran said that the government played three monkeys against the legitimate demand of a people and added: “it ignores its own domestic law, constitution and international conventions. And they put pressure on prisoners carrying out resistance by banning papers, radio, TV and give all sort of disciplinary punishments, fines. The resistance hunger strikers in Tokat are not given vitamin B and carbonate.”

“The government is threatening the future”

Başaran stated that the government accelerated the policy of war, conflict and polarization as local elections near and added: “The government thinks they will succeed in the short term but threatens the long term future of the country. To lose Leyla would mean to lose democracy and equality. It would mean to lose the people of Turkey. Our deputy has already stepped over the critical threshold. On the 120th day of her fast, we call again on the government. Leyla represents the will of millions and the demand of millions for democracy and has put her body at stake for equality and freedom."
