HDP’s Buldan: Isolation is the reason of crisis in Turkey

Buldan pointed out that the court ruled for the continuation of Güven’s imprisonment because she is a woman, a member of the parliament for HDP and is on hunger strike against isolation.

HDP Co-Chair Pervin Buldan made a statement after the hearing in Amed of Leyla Güven trial.

Buldan noted that "today we have witnessed an historic hearing. Today we have witnessed the trial of Leyla Güven, the only member of the parliament in prison. We call it a historic hearing because Leyla Güven, co-chair of the DTK and representative of Hakkari people, stands trial as a politician who has been on hunger strike for 49 days now.

Leyla Güven, said Buldan "has put her body on a hunger strike for the future and peace of Turkey and to draw attention to the isolation imposed on Mr. Ocalan."

Buldan pointed out that the court ruled for the continuation of Güven’s imprisonment because she is a woman, a member of the parliament for HDP and is on hunger strike against isolation. Buldan noted that the panel of judges that made this decision for Gülen was composed of three women.

'The source of the crisis'

Today the main reason why Turkey finds itself in the middle of chaos and crisis, said Buldan "is the approach to the Kurdish question, the fact that the representatives of the Kurdish people are in prison and the isolation imposed on Mr Ocalan in Imrali Prison. Leyla Güven did not put her body through a hunger strike for her own conditions. She never had such a request.

Because she knows very well the approach of the AKP towards Kurds, women, the HDP.  We said this and say it again: Leyla Güven's demand is the demand of us all, the demand of millions. Isolation should be lifted as soon as possible and this injustice should end."

Ending her statement, Pervin Buldan said: "Mr. Ocalan has been deprived of the most natural right; to see his family and his lawyers. For three years he hasn't seen them. It is time to end this illegality. We too, as Leyla Güven is demanding with this hunger strike, want isolation issue to be on the agenda as soon as possible and steps to be taken quickly. This is what Kurds, women, those who advocate for peace and democracy in Turkey want. This demand is so important that it cannot be reversed."
