HDP's Temelli: Opposition alliance needed to overcome the crisis

HDP Co-Chairperson Sezai Temelli visited the ÖDP today and said that the crisis created by the AKP could actually lead to a democracy alliance.

Sezai Temelli, co-chair of the HDP, visited the Freedom and Solidarity Party (ÖDP) on the second day of his party's talks for “Democratic Constitution”, “Judicial Package” and “Alliance for Democracy”.

The HDP delegation was welcomed by Önder İşleyen, member of the ÖDP Presidents Council and party executives. Thanking the HDP delegation for their visits, Işleyen reminded that the municipalities of Amed, Van and Mardin have been usurped with the appointment of trustees and expressed his party's solidarity.

'If we get together, we will get out of the crisis'

Temelli said that it is important to form an alliance to emerge from the crisis of democracy faced by Turkey.

He added that all political parties and other institutions should get together to continue the alliance born out of the 31 March elections.

Temelli said that an alliance of all opposition parties and groups is actually something the AKP fears. Which is why it resorts to violence and repression.

"Three metropolitan municipalities were appointed trustees. These appointments are nothing more than the usurpation of the will electorate, the will of our people", said Temelli, adding that "the process of trustees had been lived before, in 2016 together with the State of Emergency. And this period - he added - has brought nothing but repression and corruption."

Temelli continued: "We are watching together how the repression of those who are fed by war policies act. We have no choice but to fight against this mentality. All opposition, social opposition should come together. We have to create the basis for democracy. We have to come up with a solution. Beginning with Turkey's main problem, the Kurdish issue, we need to find solutions to all other problems. We keep our hope high. Despite all the attacks, the Kurdish people, the peoples of Turkey, women, workers are standing side by side on the ground in this struggle to open a new path. We call this path the third way."
