Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Central Executive Board (MYK), issued a written statement on World Kobanê Day and drew attention to the following: “The people of Kobanê only had their own bodies and existence against ISIS barbarism that terrorized the world with brutal and inhuman methods. They carried out an epic resistance for 133 days to protect not only their identity and future but also free humanity. ISIS, the army of murderers and rapists, which grew strong thanks to regional and global alliances of evil and plagued the peoples of the world, was defeated in Kobanê. The resistance in Kobanê brought ISIS to its physical end.”

The statement added: “Peoples of the world, you witnessed this resistance, devotion and dedication to human values ​​that the Kurdish women and youth showed at the expense of their lives. World Solidarity Day with Kobanê was declared on 1 November 2014 with the call of Nobel Peace Prize winners, academics, intellectuals, writers and democratic mass organisations. Peoples from all over the world stood up to support and express solidarity with Kobanê, because this resistance changed the course of history. As HDP, we salute the torch of resistance that tears the darkness of ISIS and enlightens the future, and the internationalist solidarity spirit of the peoples of the world, on this 6th anniversary.”

The statement continued: “What happened in Kobanê in 2014 was the inevitable struggle between freedom and barbarism, darkness and light, democracy and despotism. On that day, barbarism, darkness and despotism were defeated in the person of the Islamic State.

However, ISIS's dark mind-set still exists. This historical struggle has not ended. The Kobanê investigation launched 6 years later against our party is a revenge operation, as we have stated before, a revenge attack targeting the victory of Kobanê.”

The statement ended with the following remarks: “The truth that the Kobanê spirit cried out loudly has not changed: The more they attack, the more they will lose. Wherever there is an ISIS or this dark mind-set, peoples will continue to struggle with the same commitment and determination. Humanity will not take a step back from freedom. The tyrannical-fascist mentality has no place in this century, so it is doomed to defeat.

Our party stands by those who demand freedom and democracy against the darkness of ISIS in this struggle. It acts with the responsibility of raising this struggle and continues its march with the inspiration and determination it takes from the Kobanê resistance.

We call on the Kurdish people, their friends, and everyone who demands democracy and freedom to struggle jointly.”
