HDP to apply for a visit to Kurdish People's Leader Öcalan

No HDP delegation has been allowed to visit Öcalan since April 2015.

The HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Group deputies will apply to the Justice Ministry to meet with Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

No HDP deputy has been able to meet with him since April 2015.

The HDP has drawn up a series of plans following extensive debates at the party’s Central Executive Committee meeting, held earlier this week.

Local elections, alliance work for democratic opposition, and the regime of isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan, were all issues addressed at the meeting.

The HDP has discussed at length possible actions and steps to be taken to counter the isolation imposed on Öcalan.

One of the decision taken was that the HDP Group will apply to the Ministry of Justice to meet with Öcalan on the island of Imralı in the near future, i.e. after the summer.

In addition, a comprehensive letter will be written by Asrın Law Office and the HDP Legal Commission and sent to the embassies with the purpose of bringing the isolation regime imposed on Öcalan on the agenda.

An eye to local elections

Plans for the local elections, which are expected to be held in March 2019, were also discussed.

In this context, a mandate was given to carry out preparations for the local elections.

Discussions on the establishment of a comprehensive alliance of democratic opposition, which came to the fore in the last Central Executive Committee, also got more concrete.

It has been decided to schedule meetings with different potential allies in the next weeks.

1 September rallies

The HDP meeting also decided on the work to be done in order to ensure the highest level of participation to the rallies in Istanbul and Diyarbakir to mark the World Peace Day, on 1 September.
