HDP: Turkish soldiers tortured wounded civilians in Lice

Turkish army helicopter attacked civilians and the wounded were subjected to ill-treatment and torture in Lice, People’s Democratic Party (HPD) MPs said in a press conference.

Three Kurds from Baglan village in rural Lice, a district of Diyarbakır province, was wounded in an attack by Turkish army. A Turkish helicopter hit the tractor that was carrying Celal Yildirim, Bedran Yildirim and Munir Serin, on Sunday night. Celal Yildirim is in critical condition while other two are slightly injured.

HDP MPs Ziya Pir, Feleknas Uca and Sibel Yigitalp held a press conference after their visit to Baglan village.

Three MPs accused Turkey of deliberately attacking and torturing civilians. MP Ziya Pir said prior to their visit to the village no Turkish official gave information about what happened in Lice.

“When we arrived at the village no one was outside. They went out of their houses after they saw us. We met with the families of the wounded and other villagers. They said two helicopters dropped soldiers in two different spots around the village. Normally before such a move Turkish officials would declare a curfew and inform the residents by phone. But when the curfew was declared nobody informed the villagers. Therefore the villagers were outside on their plantations.

When the soldiers were dropped off one helicopter opened fire on the villagers Celal Yildirim and Bedran Yildirim. Celal is in critical condition because of the wound suffered to the head. Villager Munir Serin was hit by soldiers fire when he was returning from his plantation.  Soldiers kept the wounded out there on the street and prevented other villagers from interfering” Pir said.

According to the information Pir provided, Turkish soldiers searched all the houses in the village after the attack and ill-treated the villagers.

Pir said after the drone attack against civilians in Hakkari they were suspecting that this kind of attacks will be repeated. He accused the Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu of paving the way for further killings by stating “This kind of mistakes are usual” after the drone attack in Hakkari which killed 1 civilian.
