HDP: Urgent need to accelerate steps in resolution process

The Peoples' Democracy Party (HDP) central executive board issued a statement calling attention to the urgency of accelerating steps to serve the resolution process amidst rising tensions after the killing of two specialist sergeants and a soldier in Gever [Yüksekova] district of Hakkari yesterday.

The HDP statement stressed that the killing of 3 Turkish soldiers, which came after the recent death of 3 HPG guerrillas in Kağızman district of Kars, is worrisome, adding; “we are sad and concerned because of these incidents, as we feel that Turkey is advancing toward a period when clashes will occur and people will lose their lives.”

The HDP warned that the latest developments would drag Turkey to a very dangerous point in line with the present situation in the Middle East.

No more time should be wasted in order to resolve one of the most ancient problems of these lands, HDP said and called on everyone to contribute to the resolution process, to carry out what is required and to avoid attitudes that provide a basis for the re-emergence of a conflict environment, in order for the attainment of a permanent peace in Turkey.

“We believe that if the correct and necessary steps are taken, it could be possible to achieve a lasting peace in a short time”, HDP said and also offered condolences to the families of all those who have died.
