Hearing of HDP’s Yüksekdağ starts in Ankara

Hearing in the case against HDP former co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ has started in Ankara.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ is held as a political hostage by the AKP government since her imprisonment together with other HDP deputies in November 2016.

Sixth hearing in the case against her has started at the 16th Heavy Penal Court in Ankara.

Lawyers attending the hearing at Sincan Prison Complex Hall stated that Yüksekdağ is enabled access to the case file only for a few hours a week due to prison conditions, and that she cannot attend this hearing because of the restriction of her right to defence.

Remarking that Yüksekdağ’s imprisonment is being continued without justification, lawyers said the will of people cannot be imprisoned and demanded the release of their client.

Yüksekdağ is facing up to 83 years prison sentence.

The hearing continues.
